Whether you’re a yoga newbie or a devoted yogi, the best yoga mat will aid your asanas and enhance your practise. A grippy yoga mat will also prevent slipping and sliding, improve your balance, support your joints, and most importantly, prevent injuries.
Originally founded by Kat, a yogi, teacher and student, Yogi Bare’s mission has always been to create high-performance, eco-sensitive yoga mats with a sense of fun and personality. Here’s our guide to finding the best one for your level and individual needs.
Beginner’s Yoga Mat
It’s the original. It’s a classic. A supremely comfy yoga mat, the Yogi Bare Paws Natural Rubber Mat offers the grip of your life and is ideal for those starting out. Choose between red, blue, green, black, or grey.
Made from natural, biodegradable, sustainable rubber, our mats are free from harmful chemical residues. Even the stylish etching is laser engraved to avoid the use of anything toxic. The rubber is sourced from a sustainable forest and if you purchase our extra-special Wild Paws design, a tree is planted in return.
Professional Yoga Mat
As your practise advances, you’ll probably move onto more challenging asanas and try out different yoga disciplines. And you may also want to find a mat that captures the spiritual aspect of yoga and helps you feel grounded.
Our Paws Flow Mat is longer and wider than most other yoga mats. Dimensions are 180cm x 66cm. The additional length and width ensure that you have the extra space to move around, ideal for taking on those more difficult poses. With a smooth anti-slip top, it provides the signature Yogi Bare expert grip. All of our Paws mats are thick yoga mats with a 4mm thickness, to support the impact on ankles, wrists, and knees.
The stunning imprinted photograph of the ocean subconsciously encourages your flow, in the same way as water flows effortlessly and infinitely. The design is awe-inspiring, whilst simultaneously conveying a sense of perspective.
Travel Yoga Mat
Our Teddy Mat is great for taking on holiday, practising yoga outdoors, hot yoga or to bring with you to a yoga class if you prefer to use your own.
A perfectly portable, lightweight, high-performance non-slip yoga mat with superb grip. It can be used on any surface including the floor, grass, or sand. The really cool thing is that it’s foldable into a small square so you can easily pack it into a bag or suitcase, and it only weighs 1.5kg too.
Not only that, but this travel yoga mat incorporates a velvet microfiber surface that becomes extremely grippy under sweat and moisture. Meanwhile, the strong natural sustainable rubber base grips hard to the floor, preventing bunching up. So, staycation or vacation, make sure it’s on your packing list.
Wide Yoga Mat
If you’re looking for something longer and wider than normal with more room to play, we recommend our Yogi-Bare Paws X Mat. Like our Paws Flow Mat, it’s dimensions are 180cm x 66cm.
This is just the job for Acroyoga when there’s two of you, for more advanced poses, or a faster-paced yoga session when you need to move around more. Of course, it goes without saying that this mat utilises advanced grip technology to prevent you falling out of pose.
How Do I Keep My Yoga Mat Clean?
Now that you’ve chosen your yoga mat, you’ll want to keep it looking pristine. Be aware that sweat, dirt and grime can build up on your yoga mat, so remember to give it some TLC to keep it in optimum condition. Fortunately, natural rubber is unbelievably easy to clean. Our Paws, Paws X and Wild Paws mats can be cleaned once weekly by wiping down both sides with warm water diluted with completely natural fresh lemon juice.
Our highly transportable Teddy Mat is also ultra-convenient and easy to maintain too. Pop your mat on a quick wash in your washing machine at 30/40 degrees with a small amount of detergent. To dry, hang it up and store it out of direct sunlight.
